Ladies Guild
On 22nd June the Ladies Guild held their Annual General Meeting. These are very often dry, stuffy affairs. We got our priorities right by starting with food and drink in various forms, we all contributed finger nibbles and there was a choice of wine or fruit juice.
Margaret Burnett has continued as Chairman. Sheila Borderick presented the balance sheet neatly set out so we could understand it!
The charity for the last year was Macmillan Nurses; next year when we start again in September it will be Cots for Premature Babies. In September a presentation of a cheque for £1000 will be made to a representative of MacMillan Nurses.
Our group meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays in the month in the Parish Church Centre in Lower Church Street. We have interesting speakers and other activities. We are a lively, friendly bunch so if anyone is in need of company or interesting evenings, do come along and join us on September 14th at 7.30pm.

The last service before the holiday season took a slightly different form. After the usual song of praise and some prayers the children, helped by the parents were able to move round a selection of activities situated about the church. One of the most popular was, of course, the chocolate fountain where there was either strawberries or marshmallows to cover with chocolate! There was also a popcorn machine. At one activity the children helped to make a card congratulating Reverend Liz Angell on her Ordination to the priesthood. It was a hive of activity everywhere. At the end the children went home with an ice cream lolly.
There is no service in August and we all gather again on September 6th at 11.30am.
Ordination
On July 4th a coach left Syston to go to the Cathedral to join several other members of the congregation, who had made their own way, to take part in the service at which the Reverend Liz Angell was ordained to the priesthood. On the following Sunday morning Liz presided at the Mass for the first time and this was followed by a Bring and Share lunch to which the other members of our team of churches were invited. There was a happy and exuberant atmosphere as the excellent spread was enjoyed.
