New Barkby W.I.

The talk given to New Barkby members at their 6th July Meeting was ‘Places to see before you die’. Mr Alan Joyce, a blue badge guide for Leicester, showed slides and talked about a variety of places, historical buildings, monuments, that exist around England, Scotland and Wales. Local places of interest were shown including Old John, Loughborough and the Carillon, Abbey Park and the grave of Cardinal Wolsey, Leicester Cathedral, The old Grammar School at Market Harborough. They were all brought to life through the slides.

The vote-of-thanks was given by Mrs M. Gamble. The competition for a holiday postcard was won by Mrs V. Cobb.

During the evening, Mrs Stephanie Morgan of Thrussington visited to give her account, as representative for Soar Valley and Wreake Valley Groups of W.I. She spoke of her day spent at the National Federation of W.I.’s A.G.M. in London. Resolution was for more research to be carried out because of a decline in the Bee population and this was carried by majority vote. Two new members were welcomed into New Barkby W.I. by Mrs Jan Hutton, President. Mrs S. Arthur and Mrs B. Lancaster.

The raffle prize was won by Mrs J. Oliver.

Tea Mistresses were Mrs K. Fryman and Mrs S Gamble.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 5th August, Syston Community Centre at 7.30pm, when the speaker will be Mrs F. Austin who will give a talk entitled ‘The History of Toys and Games’. Visitors  are welcome.
