Sesame Playgroup Duck Race
On Saturday 27th June the Sesame Playgroup had organised a duck race on the improved area of the brook under the bridge on Melton Road. A large crowd waited enthusiastically for the time when the ducks would be dropped into the brook and race off toward the Millennium Bridge. However, as with all the best ideas it didn’t quite go as planned. Due to recent dry weather the flow of the water was so slow that some intervention was required to encourage the plastic ducks to float down the brook (see picture below). The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the playgroup which meets at the Baptist Church hall Monday to Friday 9.00am to 12.00 noon for children aged three years and above.
The crowd waited patiently as every effort was made to get the race underway. The winners were: first Gill Eames, receiving £25; second was Annie Taylor who received £10 and third prize went to Helen Clarke who received £5. A total of £163 was raised from the event and this will be used to enhance a garden area and equipment for the children. A big thank you goes out to all those who supported this event.
