Tae Kwon-do Club win in London

The Syston Tae Kwon-do Club, run by Mr James Freer 5th Dan, was invited to attend the London Area Championships held in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday1st August.
As it was holiday time with most students away, only six students entered from Syston, but they managed to gain at least three medals apiece, mostly gold medals, which all accumulated towards gaining the most points at the end of the day.
Syston did us proud and managed to become joint first with another area club to win the main trophy which was a sword. Mr Freer had to send in one of his best fighters, Leanne Simms, to fight with another member from the opposition to win the overall club on the day. She succeeded and won her fight. Mr Freer was awarded a special sword trophy which is presented each year to the winning club.
He has now won this award twice which makes him very proud of his students, whether they managed to win medals or not, after all it’s the taking part that matters.
Members from his other two clubs in Loughborough & Leicester had also competed. The winners were: from Syston, Cameron Jackson, 3 golds. Leanne Simms, 2 gold and 1 Silver. Carl Shingler, 1 gold and1 silver. Ian Jackson, 1 Silver. Jasmine Freer, 1 gold. From Loughborough, Krissie Allwood 1 gold Louise Porter, 3 golds. Adam Johnston 1 gold and 1 silver. Caitlin Allwood 2 gold and 1 silver. From Leicester, Rebecca Roberts 1 gold.
Mr Freer has a very busy year ahead of him. He is preparing his students for their Black Belt grading in October and he himself may receive his 6th Dan Grade too by the TAGB committee at the next major competition, the British Championships in November.
