Plan to ensure Chranwood is ‘A Borough to be Proud of’

A plan outlining Charnwood Borough Council’s ambitions for the next three years has been drawn up.

Reducing the borough’s impact on the environment, ensuring the area is a safe place to live and improving the wellbeing of residents are just some of the aims outlined in the council’s Corporate Plan.

The document, which is set to be endorsed at the council’s Cabinet meeting on Thursday, covers all the council’s different services which include rubbish to recycling collections and housing to regeneration.  The final decision on the plan will be taken at the next full Council Meeting on 14th September.

The report has identified what the council needs to do to achieve its ambitions and when Charnwood residents can expect to see what it has achieved.

It also outlines a vision for the council, which is to make Charnwood “prosperous, progressive and innovative and a place of choice to live, work and visit, a borough to be proud of.”

Residents and partners were surveyed to help the council identify its aims and values.

If the plan is given the go-ahead the council will pledge to, improve the wellbeing of residents, acknowledging their diverse needs. Make Charnwood a safe, cohesive borough in which to live and work. Invest in and support sustainable development. Reduce the borough’s impact on climate change. Listen and respond to residents and provide efficient, effective quality services.

Its values will be, putting the customer at the heart of everything it does. Working together as one council and in partnership with openness and integrity, and taking pride in its work and borough, always striving for improvement.

Details of how the council hopes to achieve these aims will be available on its website at www.charnwood.gov.uk and in the next edition of Charnwood News which will be delivered to homes across the borough in the coming months.

Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, Mike Preston, said: “The Corporate Plan is all about how we move the council forwards, it is about how we build better services which reflect the needs and wishes of our residents, its about how we evolve our business with an eye on the future in order to be more efficient and respond to future demands.’
