Something for the girls

On 5th September 1909, a group of girls approached Lord Baden Powell and asked for ‘something for the girls’. One hundred years later Girlguiding UK is stronger than ever and is now celebrating its Centenary Year.
On Saturday 5th September this year, Brownies and Leaders from 2nd and 4th Syston Brownies travelled to Belvoir Castle to attend the Leicestershire and Rutland Girlguiding Centenary Launch Party. Around 5,000 current and former Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Leaders attended. Girls had the opportunity to take part in many events and activities on the day. The day’s finale was a dance show and spectacular firework display. It was a very long day for our girls but very enjoyable and worthwhile.
Similar events took place all over the country to mark the start of the Centenary year.
2nd Syston Brownies have many activities and events planned throughout the Centenary year. Girls aged between seven and ten are always welcome. For further information regarding 2nd Syston Brownies, please contact Catherine Pepper on 0116 264 0839.
