The Rainbows Parivaar, an evening of dinner and entertainment aimed particularly at Leicester’s Asian Business Community, was held on Friday 2nd October at the Porsche Showrooms in Thurmaston and proved to be a celebratory, entertaining, emotional and ultimately a financially successful venture for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
The event, organised with the support of LABA (The Leicester Asian Business Association), was thoroughly enjoyed by over 100 people from right across Leicester’s diverse mix of ethnic communities, themselves representative of the communities which use the Hospice.
A lovely meal, entertainment from magicians and drummers and some fun and games were knitted together by joint comperes, Kamlesh Purohit from the BBC Asian Network and Dave Andrews from BBC Radio Leicester. It was, however, the heartfelt words from Rainbows Medical Director Dr Sat Jassal, and Khalid Gaffer father of Mohammed who is a user of the Hospice, that really put the work of Rainbows into context and touched everyone present.
The many Rainbows staff who were at the event agreed that it had more than fulfilled its aim of heightening awareness of the work of the Hospice amongst the Asian communities as well as raising in excess of £7,000.
Says Patricia Brookes, Director of Fundraising at Rainbows, “We hope that this will be the first of many such ventures linking Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People with Leicester’s diverse communities.”
