Standardly Syston – SYPP
You’ve probably seen me skateboarding in the car park of your local supermarket. My personal favourite is the Co-op in the Town Centre. You may have seen me skating on the speed bump outside your house. It’s common knowledge that Pine Drive and College Road are the best for skating. The actual council building itself was an infamous skate spot at one time.
Until recently, this was all Syston had to offer for skateboarders. Sure, the halfpipe on DeVille park was fun for a while, but there’s only so much you can do on a six foot ramp. So when I heard there was a new skate park being constructed on Central Park, it was big news not just for the skateboarders of Syston, but for every village and town in Leicester. Now we no longer have to skate car parks and speed bumps. There’s no questions asked when deciding where to skate in Syston, it’s Central Park skate park, every time.
Being a film student, I jumped at the chance to document our skateboarding at the skate park over the last year. So I produced a short film called ‘Standardly Syston’, which you can view on YouTube using the following link: http://www.youtube.com/phil3636
