Syston Allotment Society Social Evening

Our social evening was a tremendous success. Although not everyone could be available to pick up their prizes, Brian Piggin, who has been a plot holder since the late 1960s, picked up the best overall plot. Brian had been a winner in the past unlike Gris, who is a new comer this year. Gris worked hard at his plot and made several changes to the previous occupier, one Mick Hall who retired due to ill-health, took the plot from his father and has been there longer than Brian Piggin, and justly won the best half plot.
The evening held at the Conservative Club, also consisted of a very nice cold buffet and featured a question and answer panel made up of Derek Cox, Josie Hutchinson and Adey Dayman whose table was represented by the whole of Derry’s nursery, who had been the judges of the competition this year. A well turned out raffle provided winners with some interesting prizes, Derek Cox winning a London Underground Oystercard!
