Syston Twinning’s Fun-filled Summer
The members of Syston Twinning have had a truly fun-filled and sun-filled summer and have enjoyed both their annual Picnic In The Park and their Leicestershire Luncheon on beautiful English Summer Sundays.
In August, 33 members descended on Rushcliffe Country Park in Nottingham for an American picnic. This year Mrs Mavis Hunter organised games – to get us all ready for the 2012 Olympics. The most popular game was the quoits, with the huge prize of a Dinner for Two anywhere in Leicestershire.
The men v. women rounders match which followed was also highly competitive, and even after the end of the day there were heated discussions about who had won.
In September, the group got together again in Mrs Kath Wright’s garden for a scorching day to celebrate the best foods that Leicestershire can produce, washed down with plenty of French wine from our Twinning partners.
A bookstall, organised by Mr Rick Francis also proved popular with the members who wanted holiday reading or Christmas presents.
Mr Mick Ross kindly provided the music for an al fresco singsong, so that the group could sort out which songs to perform in Deville-les-Rouen next May for the Twinning’s 30th Anniversary.
Everyone is now looking forward to the Halloween Party on 31st October at Barkby Village Hall. For £6 a head or £15 for a family, there are refreshments, fancy dress competitions, games, and a disco. Tickets for this are now available and details can be obtained from the Twinning’s website: www.leicestershirevillages.com/syston/systontwinningassociation or by contacting Mrs Ann Baker on 0116 230 3835.
Why not join in the fun!
