I would like to take this opportunity to wish Barry a happy and long retirement. His decision to retire will allow him time to pursue his many interests including being an East Midlands in Bloom Judge, which is an unpaid position.
His cheerful disposition and commitment to making Syston an even better place to live will be greatly missed.
Since he joined the Syston Town Council workforce 13 years ago he has overseen, as the Estates Manager, many changes, including the wonderful street floral arrangements. He made the Jurassic Park Day held three years ago, which was a joint County Council, Syston and District Chamber of Trade and Syston Town Council venture successful, like all the other events he has been involved in. It’s one thing to make plans but it was his drive, energy and time that has made things happen in Syston.
Many residents may not know that sometimes Barry started work before 5.30 in the morning to ensure functions would proceed faultlessly due to his attention to detail.
Thank you Barry, the town has been very fortunate to have had the benefit of your unswerving commitment to making Syston so attractive.
