A WARM WELCOME FOR AFRICAN VISITOR
The British weather may have been cold for her, but there was a warm welcome for Sister Xaveria Ntenmusi from St. Martin De Porres Catholic Mission Hospital in Njinikom, Cameroon when she visited Leicester this week.
Sister Xaveria was the guest of Inter Care – Medical Aid for Africa, a Leicester-based charity that re-cycles unused prescription medicines from the UK to a network of over 100 clinics in six countries of sub-Saharan Africa. The hospital where she works in Njinikom is one of those that the charity supports. During her stay in Leicestershire, she has visited Countesthorpe Community College, Ratcliffe College, Bishop Ellis Primary School and Rothley C of E Primary School. She has also visited the parishes of St Josephs on Uppingham Road and the Divine Infant of Prague in Syston and St Gregory’s in Sileby.
Sister Xaveria was the guest of honour at the charity’s AGM in Leicester on 31st Saturday October. Chair of the Trustees, Sr Patricia Story, said that ‘Inter Care, despite the economic downturn, has had an exceptional year of growth and development and is now supporting more clinics than ever before.’
Greeted by Sister Patricia Story CP, the charity’s Chairman, Sister. Xaveria spoke movingly of the challenges faced by her colleagues in dealing with the sick and the poor in a country. Referring to the medicines received from Inter Care, she said: ‘Inter Care is a small fruitful seed planted in 1983 in Cameroon. Today this good and lasting seed has grown into a big tree of life where many lives are saved. Whenever a child or an adult is sick and is taken to this tree of life, he/she drinks its water or eats the fruits and gets refreshed.’
We still need GP Surgeries to register with us and send their patient returned medicines. For more information, please go to www.intercare.org.uk
