FLYTIPPER FINED FOR DUMPING ROTTEN FRUIT AND VEG
A man has been ordered to pay out hundreds of pounds after dumping rotten fruit and veg in a village street.
Mahomed Muhammed (22) of Wainwright Avenue, Hamilton, admitted to the offence, which took place on 14th July in The Ridgemere, Queniborough.
Loughborough magistrates heard on Monday, 2nd November how he dumped a large amount of cardboard boxes, some containing de-composting vegetables such as carrots, chillies, peppers and strawberries, in the area. Three large bin bags and a number of carrier size shopping bags containing rubbish, as well as a white plastic washing basket, were also left.
The court heard how some of the rubbish had blown across the road, leaving the scene ‘a complete mess’.
Muhammed was fined £350 for the incident and ordered to pay £504.99 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, amounting to £869.99 in total.
Chris Cary, Charnwood Borough Council’s Senior Environmental Crime Enforcement Officer, said: “This sort of behaviour is inexcusable. No one wants to see rubbish strewn over the street.
“We take these sorts of incidents very seriously and we will take action against anyone who is caught fly tipping in the borough.”
Cabinet Lead Member for the Environment at Charnwood Borough Council Hilary Fryer said: “The council works hard to ensure the borough is a cleaner, greener place and, as this case goes to show, we will prosecute people if they dump rubbish illegally.”
