merton-coffee-morning-3 On Friday 6th November, the members of the Merton School Council organised a coffee morning to raise funds for the U Foundation charity which helps raise money for building Nursery Projects and supporting Education Projects in Zambia. This follows on from the visit they had in June of this year when former President of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda visited and talked to the children about life in Zambia. Mrs Sarah Elton a parent and fundraiser for the U foundation said that she was pleased to see the children continuing their work to raise much needed funds. Sarah can be seen in our picture along with two members of the school council, Megan aged five and Joe who gave a speech to the parents and staff present and thanked them for attending and also to all those who had helped to get everything prepared. Head teacher Shelagh Thomson explained that the school council is made up of 24 children, two from each year group and they all had their own roles in organising the event which gives them very good experience of what is involved in such activities.
