Young Writer Included In Forthcoming Book

Shane of Syston wrote a poem about his Grandmother, entitled ‘my Nanna’. This was unknown to his grandmother entered by his school, Wreake Valley Community College, to the Young Writers’ Bust-A-Rhyme competition which received thousands of poems from all over the UK and overseas.  Shane’s poem has been chosen for publication in Bust-A-Rhyme Verses From England  and a copy of the book will be kept at the British Library and further libraries across the UK and Republic of Ireland which will provide a lasting record of his achievement. The Book is due for publication on 31st January 2010. It will take the form of an A5 softback with a glossy, full colour cover. The recommended retail price will be £14.99. Here you can have a pre-release preview of Shane’s poem, and hope that it will encourage you to purchase a copy once released.

My Nanna

My Nanna is in her fifties

She’s the greatest person I know

She wears funky Ugg boots

And has been there to watch me grow.

She makes me do my homework

And helps me with what I can’t do.

My nanna does most things round house

But I like to help her too.

I’ve lived with her since I’ve been born

In our house at Cambridge Close.

I’d never want to move from here

Cos rain or shine we’ve been through most.

I love my nanna, she’s the best

I hope she’s loved like that by the rest.
