NEW BARKBY WI
Monica Winfield visited New Barkby WI for their December meeting to talk about the work of LOROS and fundraising for the hospice. She gave members facts and figures. Ninety two pence out of every pound goes on care for patients and the nursing staff and volunteers all strive for normality. (Two hundred and eighty members of staff, eight hundred volunteers on a regular basis doing a variety of jobs). Mrs Winfield also spoke of her work with BBC Radio Leicester and how the two jobs interweave together.
Mrs Pat Warren gave the vote of thanks. The competition for a Christmas tree bauble was won by Mrs Barbara Gamble and Mrs Aileen Talbot was the raffle prize winner.
Mrs Christine Grant and Mrs Chris Iliffe were the tea hostesses and Mrs Dorothy Hubbard was welcomed as a new member.
There will be no meeting in January and our February meeting will be on Wednesday 3rd February 2010 when Mrs Pat Wadd of Queniborough will join us for an Antiques Quiz .
All our meetings take place at Syston Community Centre, School Street, Syston (Brookside suite) at 7.30pm. Visitors are always welcome.
