Pressing plants explained
If you’ve ever wanted to start a collection of pressed flowers capable of lasting centuries, now is the ideal time to attend a free practical introduction to the hobby. Dr Geoffrey Hall, Chief Botanist of Leicestershire County Council’s Collection Resources Centre, will demonstrate how to make a collection, which can provide a source of pleasure and study for future generations without harming the countryside. Equipment will be supplied and the techniques involved in using a flower press, the approaches to be used and how to mount a collection will all be explained. The session is being organised by Museum Natural Life Collection’s team and is part of the Natural Life Collection’s Discovery sessions, a popular programme of training and information sessions, aimed at encouraging local people to celebrate natural history. These free sessions will be on Wednesday the 7th and 14th of July, they both start at 7pm and will last for approximately 2 hours. Booking is essential, as places are limited. For further information or to book a place, contact the Collections team on 0116 305 3726 Directions to the Museums' Collection Resource Centre in Barrow-On-Soar are available on request.
