Raising Money for Children in Need, November 2009

Friday 20th November saw the launch of the 2009 National BBC Children in Need fundraising drive. Their mission is to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Their vision is a society where each and every child and young person is supported to realise their potential.
Ratcliffe College decided to support this charity within Key Stage Three this year. For this, Year 7 took part in a sponsored read on Thursday 19th November. The aim was to read as many pages as they could in half an hour and in that way raise money through sponsorship being gained per page read. Year 8 held a sponsored fancy dress three-legged race on Friday 20th November, and Year 9 held a cake and ‘goodies’ sale on the same day.
The Sponsored Read brought in £795.85, The Three-Legged Race brought in £298.65 and Year 9 sold a whopping £186.69 worth of cake! Cumulatively, the three year groups brought in a total of £1281.19!
We hoped this would be supported enthusiastically, as it gave our students a chance to be involved in this high profile national charity event, but we never expected such a tremendous response. Congratulations to all who were involved and all who contributed so generously. A massive thank you to all!
