In keeping with tradition, Syston Twinning held its annual New Year Meal on Saturday, 6th February at the Gate Hangs Well, where the members and friends who attended had a highly enjoyable time.
The high point of the evening was the surprise presentation to David and Dorothy Gregory of a basket of flowers, bottle of port, and a framed Long Service Award in recognition of all the help and assistance they have given to the Twinning group over many, many years. The Chairman, Ian Baker, said that they had been examples to everyone in their support of the visits to Deville-les-Rouen, in their hospitality when the French have visited Syston, and by their service on the committee throughout the years.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Twinning Charter and plans are already well underway in Deville-les-Rouen as well as in Syston to make this an extra special visit of the group to France. It is hoped to have a display of photographs throughout the thirty years and anyone who may have photographs of previous trips is invited to contact the secretary.
Final details of the visit will be discussed at the AGM, which will be held at the Syston Social Club on Thursday 25th March at 7.45pm, and anyone who would like to attend is invited. Further details are available from Mrs Ann Baker on 0116 230 3835, or from the website: http://www.leicestershirevillages.com/syston/systontwinningassociation.html
