Young adults are being offered the chance to sample the culture of Loughborough’s twin town Schwäbisch Hall, in Germany, as part of a fantastic study scholarship that’s up for grabs at the Goethe Institute.
Candidates aged 18-26 are being offered the chance to win the three-and-a-half week summer scholarship placement to study German from 2nd to 26th August.
The town of Schwäbisch Hall will meet costs such as course fees and board and lodgings. The student has to meet cost of travel to and from Schwäbisch Hall.
Applicants keen to take on the scholarship must be:
- Aged between 18 and 26 years and able to pay for the travel to and from Schwäbisch Hall
- Studying or have studied German and have a basic understanding of the language
- A resident or former resident of Loughborough or Charnwood or have attended a school, university or college in the borough
- Able to gain from the experience socially, vocationally and academically
Roy Brown, the Mayor of Charnwood, said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for a Loughborough student to develop their knowledge and enjoy the picturesque surroundings of Schwäbisch Hall. Such initiatives are an important way in which we can maintain our links with our twin towns and build friendships across the nations giving individuals, schools and other establishments the opportunity for learning about the culture, language and lifestyle of similar communities in other countries. I’m sure whoever is selected to take up the scholarship will benefit enormously from the course. It really is very generous of our twin town to make this experience possible. I would encourage potential candidates to send in their applications early and to make sure they don’t miss the deadline to apply. Schwäbisch Hall invites each of its twin towns to nominate a student for a scholarship and they are then assessed by the Institute before being offered a course suited to their ability and aspirations.”
Anyone interested in being considered for the scholarship should submit an application form, available from the Mayor’s Office or online, by 9.00am on Monday 12th April. The names and addresses of two referees, including a current teacher or tutor, should also be supplied.
A shortlist of candidates will then be drawn up and interviewed on Tuesday, 16th June by a panel comprising members of Charnwood Borough Council and the Loughborough Twinning Association.
The Goethe Institute will then contact the successful candidate to arrange course details.
