A great-grandmother is delighted after winning a guitar signed by Kasabian. Two Ratcliffe College Sixth Form students Sally Bolton and Liberty Gray accompanied Ratcliffe College grounds keeper Mick O’Hara to present the unique prize to the delighted winner. Vi Ward, 85, from Cossington won the guitar after buying raffle tickets from the anti-drug charity Jane’s Story.
The raffle was organised by Mick who set up the charity after meeting a young heroin addict called Jane. He was so moved by her story that he wrote a song about his encounter with Jane, raised some sponsorship and rounded up a group of musicians to record the track. Mick continues to raise awareness of the plight of young drug addicts and has set up a website www.janesstory.com. Ratcliffe College’s Headmaster, Mr Gareth Lloyd, said of the initiative: “We are all immensely proud of Mick’s achievement. His care for people in the community is an example to us all. This is an excellent cause, with a deeply moving story attached to it and the song is great, too!”
