A popular walk involving a ride in a vintage train and a ramble across the fields is returning again this year.
The event, which has been organised by Charnwood Borough Council, kicks off at 9.45am on Saturday, 8th May at Rothley’s Great Central Station and includes a train ride to Loughborough.
From there, participants will walk four miles back over the fields to Quorn, and people who wish to take the train back to Rothley at that stage can do so.
Others can take a break before continuing over the fields, via Swithland, to Rothley, completing the eight mile walk.
Nita Pearson, Active Lifestyle Development Officer at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “Last year our walk attracted 54 people, which was a tremendous amount and many stayed on to walk the full eight miles, which was phenomenal.”There will be refreshments available at Quorn and Rothley Stations, as well as on the train, and those taking advantage of this walk will be able to continue to travel on the trains after the walk for the remainder of the day.?It should be a really enjoyable and memorable event.”
The cost of the train journey has been discounted by Great Central Railway to £5 per person. There is no need to book but walkers are advised to turn up in good time.
New walkers will be asked to fill in a health questionnaire as part of the council’s links to Natural England’s Walking for Health Scheme and a register will be taken for the same reason.
