Official Opening of the New Tesco Store in Syston

tesco-official-opening2Syston’s new Tesco store opened on Monday 26th April with a large turnout of local residents on a bright and warm morning. It provided a good backdrop to the cutting of the ribbon and presentation to two local charities. The store manager David Stuart received the keys to his new store on Tuesday 13th April, when all the structural work had been completed and staff began stocking the shelves in preparation for the opening. At the time David said “We are all really excited and cannot wait for opening day! We hope the residents of Syston and the surrounding areas will be very happy with their new Tesco store.
“We will strive to give fantastic customer service whilst offering great value for money, for people living or working in the area, who want a convenient place to shop for all their household and family needs.”
David added: “My staff and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community.”
When asked about recruitment, David said that all 70 members of the previous Somerfield team were given the opportunity to keep their jobs and re-train as Tesco employees.
David continued: “In this time of economic uncertainty, it is great that we are able to keep people in employment, which in turn will help the local Syston economy. It was really important to me that all Somerfield employees were provided with the opportunity to retain their jobs and I am delighted with my team.
“All new recruits received a company induction and training specific to their department to ensure that they were fully upskilled prior to the opening.”
Syston’s new Tesco store on Melton Road opened its doors to customers at 8.00am on Monday 26th April. The official launch ceremony took place later that morning at 10.00am, when Adrian Walker, Senior Fundraiser for LOROS, Mary Gamble, Chairperson and Jenny Angell, Office Co-ordinator for Age Concern Syston, were the guests of honour. Store manager David Stuart presented them with giant cheques for £500 for their respective charities, after they had cut the ribbon to declare the new store open for business! There were glasses of champagne, orange juice and cake for the first customers.
The launch celebrations continued with customers being invited to take part in Tesco’s Golden Ticket for the chance to win £500 in Tesco gift cards! From Monday 26th April until Friday 7th May, whenever a customer spends £10 in store they will receive a Golden Ticket to fill in. On each Friday a ticket will be chosen at random, and that person will win £250 in Tesco gift cards!
The store offers customers a number of great ranges including Tesco Value, Free From and Discount Brands. In addition, it will have a self-service hot chicken counter, bakery and beers, wines and spirits. The store also offers customers a great selection of frozen food, fresh fruit and veg, dairy produce and other every day grocery essentials.
Tesco’s also has a selection of non-food departments, including health and beauty, cookshop, homeshop and stationery essentials as well as the latest DVD’s, CD’s and books in the home entertainment department.
