Little Kickers raised £118 for LOROS with help from the Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood. Young party-goers attended a fundraising football-themed party on Sunday 28th March 2010 and were joined by Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Roy Brown, Mayoress, Mrs Gillian Brown and Senior Fundraiser at LOROS Adrian Walker. Little Kickers Leicestershire celebrated its second birthday since the first class was attended by 30 youngsters aged from two to seven years old.
The party goers contributed £1 to Loros and also purchased raffle tickets to raise £118, making the total raised so far to £490.
The organisations pledge to raise £500 will be fulfilled on Monday 3rd May 2010 when it will have a stall at Thurmaston May Day fayre. Children under age seven had a penalty shoot out, and when they scored they won a prize. The young footballers, aged between two and seven years enjoyed football-themed games, a disco and party food as well as fundraising.
Proceeds from the fayre will be split equally between LOROS, RAINBOWS children’s hospice in Loughborough and the Mayor of Charnwood‘s chosen charity, Wishes for Kids. Little Kickers Leicestershire are doing more fundraising for the above charities at Sandfield Primary School, Rushey Mead, Summer fete on 13th June 2010. Other events are still being planned, such as Thurmaston’s picnic in the park. Currently there are more than 100 children enrolled on Little Kickers programmes at four centres. All under fives will be encouraged to take part in a toddler walk at Walkers Stadium on 5th July for Barnardo’s charity, organised by The Electric Yetis Football Club (contact Anne Newbery on 07707 685 142 for details).
Organisers Bhavesh and Tina Sanghani, Directors of AK Kicks Ltd, have run Little Kickers Leicestershire franchise, www.littlekickers.co.uk since March 2008 when they discovered their two children now aged seven, Amisha and Kushal, aged four, had no physical activity to attend on a regular basis. Hence they formed the classes as a means of regular exercise and help with child development skills, such as listening, colour co-ordination, teamwork, with a motto of ‘Play Not Push’.
Since the first classes at Thurmaston Memorial Hall the organisation has gone from strength to strength with centres at Gateway College and Old Lady Convent School in Loughborough, with another opening at Peepul Centre in Leicester City in May 2010.
