6th-annual-charity-real-ale2a The sixth annual charity real ale festival was held at Syston Community Centre between the 15th and 17th April and was very well attended. There was a wide range of real ales and ciders as well as hot food available. The atmosphere was lively, friendly and warm. The Rotary Club of Wreake Valley have worked hard to bring 28 different real ales to the town to raise money for local and national charities. Their main national charity this year is Help for Heroes which helps injured service personnel and their families on return from active duty in places like Afghanistan, Iraq and many other areas around the world. This festival was an opportunity to try real ale for the first time or for enthusiasts to get together to compare the range available. One of the most popular ales was called Wild Swan from Thornbridge, but overall everyone just enjoyed trying real ales from different parts of the country.
The picture below shows the festival organiser, Fred Sleath, with some of the Wreake Valley Rotary volunteers at the event. They said “we’re delighted with the support of the local community, customers and sponsors, as the Festival raised almost £3,000.”
