Historic walk around Syston
If you would like to learn about Syston’s past, why not join local author Roy Townsend, who will be leading an evening stroll around the town and revealing its history.
Roy has written a number of books about Leicestershire’s local history and has devised this guided walk after conducting extensive research into Syston’s past.
His first book ‘Inn-vestigated’ was published in 2005 and looked into the origins of public house names. He then produced a pamphlet about Francis ‘Tanky’ Smith, Leicester’s first detective, and his most recent book ‘Almost Forgotten’ gives details of the famous and infamous characters from Leicestershire’s history.
The hour-long walk will take place on on Tuesday 3rd August and repeated again on Tuesday 14th September.
It will begin at Syston Library at 7.00pm and returns to the library for refreshments and a chance to view some historic photographs of Syston. Tickets cost £2 and can be booked by calling the library on 0116 305 3500. Places are limited so booking in advance is necessary.
