New Events Guide to Summer in The County
The action-packed summer issue of Leicestershire’s Events Guide is out now, and is available at outlets across the county and city.
This free 72 page guide, put together by the County Council, is packed with hundreds of fun activities and fascinating events at county museums, country parks and libraries, many of which are free.
See the 525th Anniversary Re-enactment of the Battle of Bosworth on 21st and 22nd August, featuring thrilling jousting tournaments, awe inspiring displays of hand-to-hand combat and hundreds of knights, soldiers and archers recreating the famous battle.
You can marvel at The Miners’ Gala in September and celebrate mining heritage in Leicestershire, along with a Gala Parade, colliery bands, tours and local history displays. Plus there will be a chance to ‘Meet the Experts’, a fascinating programme of activities which will run throughout the summer.
There are many more fantastic events to experience, including The Festival of Leicestershire & Rutland Archaeology from 17th July until 1st August. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at Snibston, on tour from the Natural History Museum, showcasing the best of nature photography. Leicestershire Revealed! a new online exhibition bringing together 100 historically significant objects from across the county. The new Town and Rural Life Gallery at Melton Carnegie Museum, including the new Community Room. 125 years of Leicester City Football Club, an exhibition of Foxes’ memorabilia at the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
Libraries will be gearing up for the summer reading challenge called ‘Space Hop’ in July with many exciting events that the whole family can join in.
Children and families can have heaps of summer fun too, with a host of activities to choose from including Family Week Storytime and Bedtime Reading Week with storytelling and craft activities in county libraries. Countryside activities for spotting wildlife and enjoying nature spots across the county. The National Forest Woodfair, during the August Bank Holiday at Beacon Hill Country Park. Walking Week from 4th to 12th September across the county. There is a pull-out guide in the centre of the Events Guide to start you on your way.
The Guide’s back page competition is looking for Wordsearch Wizards, those who can spot museum objects and identify the odd-one-out get the chance to win £25!
The guide offers lots of reasons to get involved in outdoor pursuits in the countryside like walking, fishing, countryside crafts or even joining in a volunteer day. Plus you could win a £25 museum shop voucher or a free water bottle in the Walking Week prize draw competition.
