syston-in-bloom-schools-comp2 On Tuesday 25th May the children at St Peter and St Paul Primary school gathered in the main hall for a special assembly. They welcomed two guests from the Syston in Bloom committee, Mr Derek Cox and Mrs Marilyn Gant who had been the judges in the recent competition set for schools, where they were set a task of creating either a picture or collage or poem related to nature.
Mr Cox spoke to the children about what the Syston in Bloom committee do to help make Syston a more pleasant place to live and that everyone in the town was responsible in keeping it clean and tidy. He told the children that the standard of entries to the competition had been very high and that it had not been an easy task for the judges to decide who the winners were but they had agreed on the following in the three categories.
Mounted Category, Collages. First Liam, second Harry and third Ellie all year one children.
Unmounted Category, paintings or drawings. First Stacey, second Jordon and third Sophie all year three.
Poetry category. A joint first prize to Bethany and Abbey, second Shreya and third Libbie all year four.
Our picture above right shows the very excited winners with their certificates and prizes. Each certificate included a photograph of their work.
Well done to them and all who took part.
