At the annual changeover of Presidents of the Wreake Valley Rotary the outgoing President, John Capewell, commenting on his year in office said that it had been a good year for the Club.
During the year the Club had built a Disabled Toilet facility in Syston
Centenary Park, provided and furnished a large patio area for the Leonard Cheshire Disability Home in Sileby, sponsored a VSO volunteer to work in Cebu, Philippines and also sponsored a young lady who ran 150 miles in the sub-saharan desert in seven days, to say nothing of a successful Real Ale Festival.
Accepting the Presidency of the Club Chris Battye paid tribute to the leadership of John Capewell during the past year and promised another year of service to the local and overseas communities, together with some more individualist activities. The first of which is to be the Watermead Challenge, a five mile run through Watermead Park, Syston which has already attracted over 75 entrants and will take place on 14th July. This will be followed by an interesting weekly programme throughout the year.
The Club is still open to new members and anyone interested should contact Chris on 0116 230 3173.
