Mr Neil Head visited New Barkby WI to talk about his work as a bodyguard (working in groups of four or five people). He showed a power point presentation of guns and talked about fire arms law. The bodyguards are in constant communication with each other as they carry out their protection of VIP’s etc., although there may be language difficulties at times. Later in the talk, Mr Head spoke of how members of the public can protect themselves. Afterwards there was a question and answer session.
Mrs V. Cobb gave the vote-of-thanks. Competition winner for a security tip was Mrs C. Hickling.
Raffle prize winner was Mrs J. Hawes
Refreshments were served by Mrs B. Jameson and Mrs P. Warren.
In June, a fun auction raised £100, with Mr John Montague acting as auctioneer, for New Barkby’s own funds. July’s social evening was a guided walk around Watermead Country Park, with chief ranger Mr Dale Osborne. Everyone just managed to get back to their cars by the time heavy rain fell, but a pleasant time was enjoyed by all who attended the event.
Next month. Wednesday 4th August, a music quiz with Mr Brian Dawby.
