The new musical kid on the block – Singing for Fun – entertained packed houses at Birstall Parish Church and the Chapel of Ratcliffe College on 28th and 29th May. The aim was to raise a few pounds for Loros and Rainbows, but they did so much better than that! A huge thank you from the group to the two audiences, who between them, raised a whopping £2,400! Loros and Rainbows have each been sent £1,000, with the remaining £400 going to the Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust to support those Ratcliffe College students travelling to Lourdes this year to help with the HCPT.
Musical lollipops were the order of the day, with the group performing such ‘classics’ as Franck’s Panis Angelicus, Verdi’s Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, the Frank Sinatra hit New York, New York, Sting’s Fields of Gold and Eva Cassidy’s Over the Rainbow, as well as songs in French, Hebrew and Maori something for everyone! “Many of the singers were performing in public for the very first time and yet you’d never have realised from the infectious levels of enthusiasm and confidence” said Anne Hughes, the Musical Director. So if you’re thinking of joining a singing group that doesn’t take itself too seriously and yet reaches really high standards, look no further than Singing for Fun! There are now over 250 members and the new term starts in the week beginning 7th September, with daytime and evening classes running in Quorn, Rothley, Syston, Tilton-on-the-Hill and Woodhouse Eaves. Everyone is welcome, whatever their ability of level of experience. Further information is available on the group’s website: www.SingingForFun.co.uk or by phoning 07742 576 031.
