St Peter and St Paul Summer Festival

flower-display-inside-st-peter-and-st-paul-churchBetween Friday 25th and Monday 28th June, Syston Parish Church held a summer festival. They were blessed with wonderful weather for this event. Starting with Songs of Praise on Friday evening when several local people from Syston chose hymns and explained their choices, the weekend continued with the Flower Festival over the next two days, see picture above. It was great to have the church open and allow people to see this beautiful building decorated so splendidly. Several local sponsors had contributed most generously to the cost of the flowers.
During Saturday afternoon the Tower was open for the brave to venture up the stairs to see how the bells are rung and then continue up to the roof to enjoy the spectacular view, see picture right looking towards East Goscote/Queniborough. view-from-church-tower-towards-east-goscote
On Saturday afternoon the Rectory garden hosted several activities and entertainment, including a stilt walker who many may have seen in Town Square. There was dancing and a swing band to enjoy as well as hot dogs, beer, tea and cakes. Several stalls, including cakes, plants and a tombola did a brisk trade and if that wasn’t enough you could see if you could win £10 by guessing which station the train would stop at!
Sunday morning the Bishop of Leicester celebrated at the morning service where both the 10.00am and eleven30 congregations joined together in worship.
The weekend rounded off with a picnic in the park where the Syston Town Band entertained the people enjoying the continuing sunshine.
