On Sunday 4th July the Syston Girl Guiding district held an event as part of the 100 years celebration of the start of the movement.
Seven packs of brownies and rainbows took part in an afternoon of games, songs, dancing and generally having fun.
The event was held at St Peter and St Paul primary school and although windy the weather was good for the challenges set out across the playing field. The Trefoil Guild were also present to help the leaders to organise the wide range of events and help distribute drinks and one Trefoil member produced a fabulous cake.
The girls had paid £3.00 to take part in the afternoons activities and were all presented with a commemorative embroidered badge at the end of the day. The commissioner Claire Mushen said that the badge was made so that the girls could stitch it on to their camping blanket.
She also wanted to thank the school for allowing them to use the playing field and facilities during the afternoon and the Syston Town Council along with Pukka Pies who contributed to the event in the sum of £200 plus a football, which was used for the penalty shootout and then raffled off to one of the girls at the end of the day.
