Syston Squadron nominated for local award.

1181 (Syston) Squadron has recently been nominated by Mr Howard Midgley, Chairman of Syston Town Council for the Chairman’s Charity of the Year 2010 – 11.
This is the second time the unit has been put forward for the award showing the outstanding work that is being undertaken by the cadets and staff within the local community.
The cadets have already been involved with the council this year assisting with their civic reception as well as hosting the council at their ‘ATC Sunday’ event earlier in the year. In addition to this the cadets have also been out in force fundraising in Syston selling Wing raffle tickets at various locations, as well as bag packing in supermarkets.
Pilot Officer Andy Houghton said “It is always nice to be recognised by local people for the work that you are doing for young people within the community. My thanks go to the cadets and staff who have turned out on these events and helped with fundraising for the unit, without your efforts then we would never have been in this great position”.
At present the squadron is planning a number of financial projects this year including refurbishing its existing computers and IT systems as well as replacing ageing sports equipment.
