The August meeting was chaired by president Mrs Jan Hutton, when Mr Malcolm Darby, author and storyteller, visited accompanied by his friend Jim and together they gave us a music quiz, with tunes played on the keyboard by Mr Darby.
Members formed into groups to answer the questions and the winning group consisted on Mrs G Baker, Mrs C Parker, Mrs C Hickling and Mrs B Gamble. They won by answering a tie-break question, Who is the oldest person to have a top ten hit? The answer, Vera Lynn.
Everyone enjoyed the fun of the quiz and the vote of thanks was given by Mrs Angela Montague.
The winner of the competition for a favourite song was won by Mrs Mary Gamble with ‘I love you because’ sung by Jim Reeves, a hit in 1964.
The raffle was won by Mrs R Foster and Mrs G Hegginson and Mrs M Muddimer were tea hostesses.
On Wednesday 11th August we had a treasure hunt which started from Syston Conservative Club.
The next meeting will be on 1st September at 7.30pm at Syston Community Centre, when Mr M Trott will be speaking about puppetry.
