Vacancies for Town Councillors
There are currently three vacancies on the Town Council due to the resignations of three councillors.
Any resident of Syston, aged eighteen or over, who is interested in becoming a member of the Town Council, and can spare a few hours each week is requested to contact the Council office for further information. Telephone 0116 260 7150 or e-mail [email protected].

Syston in Bloom
East Midlands In Bloom judges Mr Richard Adams and Mr Dave Bramwell visited Syston Town on 5th July 2012 to judge our floral displays for the ‘East Midlands In Bloom Competition’.
An enormous amount of effort this year was put in from the members of the East Midlands In Bloom Committee and the Council staff.
The Town was awarded a Silver Gilt Award for 2012. The judges declared themselves to be particularly impressed with the Jubilee and Olympic floral displays. High standards of maintenance at the Cemetery, the War Memorial and Town Square were noted.
Awards were also made to St Peter and St Paul’s School for their Wildlife Garden and to the St Paul’s Court Residents’ Group. See gallery of pictures belwo.

Archdale Street Park
Consultants Bellinger Design have been appointed by the Town Council for the enhancement of the play area in this park.
This firm has previous experience of designing play areas and landscapes for the Town Council, including Park Square and the refurbished playgrounds at Central and Deville Parks.

Cleaning of War Memorial, Central Park
The cleaning and refurbishment of the War Memorial was completed on 9th October in time for this year’s annual Service of Remembrance. The Council are grateful to the War Memorials Trust for provision of 50% grant towards the cost of this work.

New Cemetery
A consultant has recently been appointed to design a new cemetery for Syston as the existing cemetery is now approaching full capacity.

Christmas Speciality Market
The event panel have been busy preparing for this years annual event. The Christmas Speciality Market will take place on Saturday 8th December on Central Park. The market will commence at 10.30 and will host a wide range of stalls including crafts, gifts, local produce, hot and cold food, refreshments will be available, a mini fun fair will be located near the war memorial. There will be a Santa’s Grotto.

A stage will be on the Sundial entrance where there will be entertainment commencing from 11.30am. This will include a local dance group, live music, performers from Wreake Valley Academy, Syston Band, Children’s entertainer, Morris dancers. The Santa parade will start from the Millennium bridge on the Brookside and make its way round to the Sundial entrance were Santa will proceed to the stage to meet with the children.
The lights will be switch on at approximately 4.30pm.
Bring the family and enjoy the day.

The Lantern Parade
This year’s Lantern parade will take place on Friday 14th December. You are asked to meet at the Bowls club in Central Park at 6.00pm. Then proceed to the Sundial entrance where some carols will be sung, then walk along Melton road, stopping off near Metro Wines to sing some more carols before finishing in the Town Square with some more carols. Finish time approximately 7.30pm. Local shops may remain open for late night shopping.

All children are to be accompanied with and adult and please make sure that you bring safe use lanterns.
