Mrs S Franklin, President, welcomed everyone to the New Barkby’s December meeting.
Speaker was Mr Ian Rogerson on ‘Smile Please, say Cheese’. He brought along a variety of cheeses, including YARG, a recently created cheese, from Cornwall. Members were able to taste and try the various types, which went well with cream crackers and cups of tea or coffee.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs R Foster.
Competition, the letter ‘Y’ was won by Mrs M Gamble, who also won the raffle prize.
Tea hostesses were Mrs J Cross and Mrs B Saunders.
New Barkby recently celebrated its 87th birthday with an evening meal at Beedles Lake golf club, East Goscote. To round off the year, there was a Christmas party for members where everyone enjoyed good food, games and carol-singing.
New Barkby W.I. Started off the New Year by holding a Beetle Drive. There was a good turn out of members, who wished to shake off the winter blues by attending the meeting at Syston Community Centre.
The next formal meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th February at 7.30pm, when the speaker and demonstrator will be Claire Williamson on ‘Stained Glass Restoration’. Visitors are welcome to attend meetings.
A Happy New Year to all readers of the Syston Town News.
