Dear Editor,

Along with my team I am marking International Women’s Day, 8th March, by joining CARE International’s ‘Walk in Her Shoes’ campaign.

In Africa and Asia, millions of women and girls walk an average of four miles every day to fetch dirty water, carrying backbreaking loads that could make them seriously ill. The cost is high: there is little time for them to go to school or to earn a living, or even have a childhood and play, which we take for granted.

Myself and 10 other ladies from Kaplan Financial East Midlands will be walking 10,000 steps a day for a week from 4th March to 10th March 2013, in solidarity with women and girls in the developing world. By raising £100, I can help build a water pump close to a poor community, saving them their gruelling daily walk and giving them fresh, clean water. As a team we have a target of £1000 to reach.

I’d like to encourage your readers to help too.
