Where wonderful women meet!
A successful women’s group is opening its doors to new members this month following its move to bigger premises. Formed in early 2012, ‘The Charnwood WIgs’ offers women of all ages the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and discover new talents. With its roots in the traditional values of companionship and community and an eye to the future, this modern WI group allows women to rediscover ‘lost’ crafts, experience the latest trends and address current issues affecting them and their families. Group president, Sharon Allan says, “It’s a chance for women to leave their responsibilities behind for a few hours and engage in a bit of ‘me-time’ with other like-minded women. Our members are both young and young at heart and whether we’re learning to belly dance or to crochet you can guarantee we’ll be having a laugh doing it. We believe we offer something for everyone, and future activities include a chocolate-making master class and a fundraising fashion show. We recently set up a book club, and walking group, and we also have a ghost trip, and ‘pie-night’ planned for later this month, and will soon be debating on the decline of our high streets, and ways to prevent cyber-bullying and protect our children on-line.” Formerly based in the village hall, the group now meets at Sim’s Restaurant in East Goscote at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month and visitors are welcome to come along and ‘give it a go’ before committing to join the group. Entry is £4 per session or £33 for an annual membership. If you’d like further information please contact Sharon on 07849 888 752 or email [email protected]
