During our March meeting we were entertained by Joyce Langham who gave a talk entitled ‘Lost In Translation’. Joyce is a translator for the hard of hearing and this role takes her into all sorts of different areas such as work places, hospitals and colleges where she has encountered some very embarrassing and sometimes difficult situations, from the translating point of view. Her stories of embarrassing moments and how she signed them had us all laughing. Her interesting job role gave an insight into the difficulties met by the hard of hearing but also how easy it was for her to misinterpret something when not knowing the subject. All in all this was a very interesting and amusing talk enjoyed by all. Our meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month in Barkby Village Hall, so come along and see what the WI has to offer.
