President Shirley Franklin welcomed members to the May meeting of New Barkby WI.
Speaker for the evening was Glenice Wignall, Chairman of the Public affairs and International committee for the Leicestershire and Rutland federation of WI’s AGM in June.
The resolution is – ‘The decline of our high streets and the damaging effect this has on local communities’. Please support local shops and high streets. There are so many factors to be taken into consideration and members were able to express their own viewpoints. The vote was taken , with the majority of members for the resolution, with two abstentions.
Mrs C Grant(vice president) gave the vote of thanks and stated that members had been given an insight into the complexity of the resolution and changes that come into our lives.
Competition for the letter ‘I’ was Mrs Gamble, who brought along a miniature iron and some ironing.
Raffle was won by Mrs P Elson.
Tea Hostesses were Mrs B Jameson and Mrs P Warren. Next meeting – Wednesday 5th June, Syston community centre at 7.30pm.
