President Shirley Franklin, welcomed members and visitors to the New Barkby August meeting. After business matters, the speaker was Mr Bob Neill, accompanied by his wife, Del, who brought along a ‘Pink Box’.

Amongst the 20 bits and bobs in the box were, a paper bag maker, knitting needle gauge, spill maker. The task was to identify items from his collection. It was all good fun and there were quite a few surprises on learning that something members thought they could name turned out to be something quite different.

Mrs D Conroy gave the vote of thanks. Competition, the letter ‘S’ was won by Mrs J Hawes, with a Welsh loving spoon made of wood.

Raffle Prize was won by Mrs L Bennison. Tea Hostesses were Mrs L Linney and Miss E Loder. On a recent social evening, organised by Mrs B Saunders, some members spent a beautiful sunny evening with a walk around Brookside, Barkby with Mary Toms and Angelia Pick from Barkby History society. Afterwards there was a supper held at the Brookside Inn.

The social evening held in August was a Mystery Evening with a strawberry and scone supper.

The September meeting to be held on Wednesday 4th, ‘Boxes and Bags’ with demonstration and audience participation on how to make the above items, with Mrs R Green and Mrs J Kirk. Visitors are welcome to attend.
