President Shirley Franklin welcomed members to New Barkby’s September meeting. After all of the business matters had been dealt with, Mrs Ruth Green and Mrs Janet Kirk (from the ‘Arts and Crafts committee’ for the Leicestershire and Rutland federation) demonstrated the art of making gift boxes and bags for that particular present which needs to be wrapped. Some members made boxes and another group made bags and bottle bags. By the end of the session there was a colourful array of everyone’s efforts.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs A Montague.
Competition – ‘The letter H’ was won by Mrs J Bishop with a ‘Hunting Horn’.
Tea Hostesses were Mrs P Elson and Mrs A Wright.
Members enjoyed a fun mystery evening in August for their social evening, when items provided by committee members were hidden in pillow cases, and members had to identify its contents by feeling the shapes. A most pleasant time was had by all who attended the event.
Mrs A Taylor thanked everyone for their support for her year of fund-raising in memory of her son, the late Oliver Taylor. The updated figure towards Leukaemia/Lymphona research stands at £14,641.94.
