Spotlight – The Journal of Syston Town Council

Syston in Bloom Tizer Flower bed

Syston in Bloom committee have again received recognition for the Town by obtaining a Silver Award for their
hanging basket and heritage floral displays in the East Midlands in Bloom Competition 2013, with the Queen Victoria House making a significant contribution. Merton Primary School Gardening Club won the judges award.

Fire Sign

A period Fire sign has been gifted to Syston Town Council by the Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service. This will be refurbished and erected in the Park Square as a tribute to all the men and women who have served Syston since we first had a Fire Station.

A life saving defibrillator was installed at the Mace shop on Melton Road, Syston on 26th September 2013. This was dedicated in memory of the former County Councillor Mike Preston who died in 2011. Cllr Sue Gerrard helped secure the funding for this project from the South Charnwood forum.

Syston Fair and Circus

Billy Bates annual fair was one of the highlights of our calendar and was enjoyed by many again this year. In recent years the popularity of the fair has grown, and working in partnership with Syston Town Council and the local Police has greatly reduced anti-social behaviour at the fair in the last couple of years and made it more enjoyable for families. Circus World from Hampshire came to Syston this year and gave a fantastic performance for all ages.
