The Church is Open Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd December from 2.00pm until 4.30pm both days for viewing over 30 trees! All locally decorated from families and organisations, and businesses in the Parish. For example, we have a Partridge in a Pear Tree from Somerby Methodists Open Door group & Oakham Young Farmers have a huge tree full of tractors of many different colours, cows, round bales – did I forget to say these are toys! Somerby School children have produced two trees, a Memory Tree and a Wishing Tree. Local church goer Rachal Harby has knitted 50 different mini Santas, robins, snowmen and more for her splendid tree called Knit and Purl.
Visitors are welcome to Vote for their favourite tree or trees, by Voting with Pennies. Each tree will have a milk bottle beside it and the tree with the bottle with the most pennies will win a decorated homemade Christmas Cake!
Freshly made mincepies, yummy cakes and Mulled Wine, coffee or tea, will be available throughout. We have been busily making cakes too, for the Cake Stall.
The Open Church is open just Saturday and Sunday afternoon next weekend, and we need people to come inside and take a look! No charge, just donations.
Carol Concert is on Wednesday 18th December at 6pm in Somerby, also to bless all the trees, which make for a magical atmosphere amongst the candles and Christmas Tree lights.
Also we are hosting a Mulled Wine and Mincepie evening in Church on Saturday 21st, 7.00 – 9.00pm, where everyone can view the trees and also vote with their pennies.
So much going on in Somerby!
