Ladies Friendship Circle
On Monday 20th January our speaker was Felicity Austin. Felicity spoke to us about Nursery Rhymes, Riddles and Proverbs, some dating back 200 years. This was a most entertaining and amusing evening which we all enjoyed.
On Monday 10th February we were visited by Janet Gilchrist who gave a most entertaining talk on her life as a librarian. She had a varied career and had seen libraries change over the years.
Janet took us on a trip down memory lane talking about visiting the library when we were young where most of us developed our life long love of reading.
A very enjoyable evening.
Friends of Syston Parish Church
Sunday afternoon 9th February saw the inauguration of the Friends. The church was open from 3.00pm to 5.00pm for the opportunity to view several displays of photos and plans of the church through the ages. There was also an opportunity to look at plans for the future development of the church. A fascinating developing archive of wedding photos and memorabilia was also on display. Were any of you or any members of your family married at the church? If so, we’d love to add them to our album! If you can lend us photos to scan, and give brief details of date and people, we’ll add them to our archive. Just email the ‘Friends’ at the address below. A DVD of old and new photos of Syston was shown as well as photos of activities that take place in the church.
A delicious tea of sandwiches and cakes was provided, which those attending thoroughly enjoyed.
Everyone in Syston is welcome to join to support this ancient and beautiful Grade 1 listed building and help to see it continue to provide a focus for the town in 21st century.
Just give Brian Austin a ring on 0116 269 2543, or email him on [email protected] for more details.
