Syston in Bloom – Is Your Garden Ready?

Supporting Syston in BloomSyston in Bloom gave a presentation at the recent Annual Town Meeting. It explained to Councillors and members of the public present what the Syston in Bloom group do and how everyone in the community can get involved.
There are several competitions that you can enter, the most popular being the Best Front Garden which will be judged in late July, so its not too late to get your garden entered, competition entry form can be found on page 33 of this issue.
The town also enters the East Midlands in Bloom Competition, the judging for this will take place on 10th July. The schools, and other local groups have been busy helping to plant borders and keep areas tidy.
This year they have two themes, a golden theme for the 50th Anniversary of Britain in Bloom, so look out for sunflowers and other golden plants around the town.
Secondly, they will be remembering the First World War, along with councils and other organisations across the country. Syston cemetery contains war graves and we should remember these people. Look out for their poppy-coloured stickers, shown above left.
If you would like to get involved and are available to assist Syston in Bloom then they would like to hear from you, you can contact them through the Syston Community Centre, or email: [email protected]
As a community we can all help to get our town ready for the judging by keeping our own front gardens tidy, keeping paths and parks free from dog mess and litter by using the bins around the town or taking it home and disposing in our own rubbish bins.
Lets get involved and aim for a gold medal!
