Celebrations as Jackie Bullen Is Ordained Priest
Friends, family and parishioners gathered together at 5.30pm on 28th June 2014 in Leicester Cathedral for the ordination of Jackie Bullen.
Jackie, curate in the Fosse Team and a former accountant, was ordained together with six other ordinands by Christopher Boyle Assistant Bishop of Leicester.
The service began with the greeting from Bishop Christopher and presentation of the ordinands. The sermon was given by Canon Mike Harrison. During the service Jackie was anointed, presented with a bible and had her stole adjusted to reflect her new office as priest. We all prayed for her, sang joyously, clapped and cheered at the completion of the ceremony. Following the service the congregation was invited to remain for glasses of wine and fellowship. There was musical entertainment, but due to the inclement weather, the band played in the Porch of the Cathedral.
Bishop Tim Stevens who was to lead the ordination was unable to attend due to family illness. We pray for him and his family.
Later on the Saturday evening, friends and family gathered at St Hilda’s, East Goscote. A scrumptious buffet, organized by Jackie’s daughter Charlotte, was enjoyed by all. The vote of thanks and congratulations was given by Neil, Jackie’s husband. He echoed how proud we all are of Jackie and her unceasing work, and calling to follow our Lord Jesus and lead us in the offering of praise.
The first celebration of the Holy Eucharist by The reverend Jackie Bullen was held at the Team Eucharist on the Feast of St Peter & St Paul on Sunday 29th June.
The sermon was given by the Rev’d Jane Gibbs, Associate Priest at St Mary’s Church, Hinckley, a friend and colleague of Jackie’s.
The celebrations were concluded with a lunch hosted at the rectory. In excess of a hundred people gathered to celebrate with Jackie and give thanks for the presence of God in all our lives.
