New Barkby WI

Mrs B. Saunders, President, welcomed members of New Barkby WI and visitors to the September meeting.
Members were thanked for their contributions of food items and competitions for Syston carnival which was highly successful financially, the money raised will go into funds.
Speaker for the evening was Claire Williamson, who spoke on ‘Stained Glass Restoration’. With a power-point presentation she showed examples of her restoration work and conservation of windows. There are several commissions she has undertaken in various churches and other buildings around Leicester and Leicestershire as well as other areas of the country.
In schools children have assisted in projects to make glass tiles which give them an insight into how these works of art are created. Other items Claire creates are trophies made from fusing glass together with glass tiles, which can be used on ceilings or in kitchens. A special feature is a rainbow window for rainbows hospice. Workshops and evening class sessions are available for anyone who wishes to join in.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs c. Grant. Competition for the letter ‘I’ was won by Mrs J. Bishop with an illustrated letter ‘I’ in decorated foam.
