Rev’d Canon Michael Madeha visits the Fosse Team group of Churches

2014 Revd MichaelThe parishes of the Fosse Team, including Syston were privileged to welcome the Rev’d Canon Michael Madeha for a week-long stay in September. Michael is a priest in the Diocese of Kiteto, Tanzania. He is married and has five children, the eldest of which is 22 and the youngest aged seven.
Michael is with us in Leicester Diocese as part of our link programme. The Dioceses of Leicester, Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Kiteto, Tanzania, Wyoming, USA and Trichy, South India are all working together with the support of their Bishops. They are aiming to learn together about how God is calling us all to work in the future and what it means to be part of a worldwide Christian family offering mutual support and prayer.
During his stay, among other places too numerous to mention, Michael visited Ray’s Tray for a cuppa and a chat, The Gate Hangs Well to meet with the local branch of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, the Co-operative store in Syston to experience shopping in a supermarket and a coffee at Roots Farm Shop in Barkby Thorpe.
Several members of the church family invited Michael to visit them in their homes and shared a meal with him. He preached at a Sunday morning service at St Hilda’s East Goscote and attended the Harvest Celebration at Ratcliffe on the Wreake as well as attending many prayer meetings in various churches in the team and Sunday acts of worship.
Many people have expressed their interest in forging stronger links with our link diocese in Kiteto and especially supporting Michael’s family in their lives and ministry.
We have certainly benefitted greatly from Michael’s visit and we pray that he too has found his visit to be fruitful and worthwhile.

Ladies Friendship Circle
The year started with a quix organised by Cynthia Tooth. The members enjoyed questions on subjects as varied as Proverbs, Famous People and Cockney Rhyming slang! There was a good deal of amusement and fun ending with the usual refreshments.

Services this year began with a service on Sunday 7th September when our visiting priest Rev’d Canon Michael Madeha joined in. He thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the service and answering the questions from the children.
The children are looking forward to the Harvest thanksgiving service on Sunday 5th October at 10.30 and the refreshments and shared lunch afterwards!
The challenge this year is to make a collection of canned food to be donated to charity.
